Christian Right the New Global Terrorist Threat?

American terrorism is on the rise. Yesterday, Pat Robertson, one of the leaders of the Christian Right, an extremist group with a history of terrorist activity in the United States, called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, a democratic nation.

Pat Robertson has also publicly prayed on television for the deaths of U.S. Supreme Court justices. If a Muslim in America prayed on television for the deaths of U.S. Supreme Court justices, would he still be a free man in this country?

Robertson labeled Chavez a dictator which is far from the truth. Venezuela is a country that holds democratic elections.

President Jimmy Carter was in Venezuela to witness their 2004 last election. As noted on the Carter Center's website:

"Many low-income Venezuelans living in barrios (above) report the creation of medical clinics, literacy programs, and supermarkets with subsidized food under the Chavez government."

Does that sound like a horrible dictator to you?

Venezuela has not attacked nor has it threatened to attack the United States. Sounds like Pat Robertson and other Christian terrorists are jealous of Venezuela.

Experts speculate that Pat Robertson and other high ranking American officials hate Hugo Chavez and want him dead because of the large supply of oil that Venezuela has.

Beware Venezuelan supporters of Hugo Chavez! This man wants to kill you all!

Thanks to Tennessee Guerilla Women who had the link to ABC Family on their blog, I contacted ABC and told them that I am boycotting all ABC programs and channels until Pat Robertson and the 700 Club are removed from their programming schedule.

It would be great if we could finally take Robertson down a peg, amazing the stuff he gets away with. And he's on a Disney owned channel!

Thanks for the link.

interesting that everywhere else but ABC, you will find Pat Robertson made headline news with his Fatwa against Chavez.

I even heard about it on my local news station!

Rev Haggard told Lou Dobbs to chill out - nobody is assassinating anyone because its illegal for the US Government to assassinate foreign leaders for political reasons.

That makes "installing Democracy" in Iraq an illegal justification for the war - of course in Saddam's case it was only attempted assassination using cruise missiles.

Better go find some WMD's George! And quick! Or you're all going to jail!

I saw Lou Dobbs, but couldn't recall the Rev. Haggard's name. So who is he? I mean what church or politcal org. is he affiliated with, do you know?

The fundies own their own tv station, CBN, so there's no hope of getting them off the air, as I understand it. (Robertson may well own CBN) But there should be a good chance of getting him off the cable station, ABC Family.

I don't know anything about Haggard. I just thought it was interesting how his defense of Robertson translated when applied to Iraq.

That's the problem with being fundamentally wrong just to tow the party line - eventually all the arguments fall apart

Thank you for this post. Most bloggers are oblivious to what is going on in Venezuela. I'm no fan of Chavez, but it is clear he has the support of most Venezuelans.

You're not talking about Merle Haggard are you?

Egalia, i have noticed that the christians own quite a few cable television stations.

thing is, they're not mainstream yet, like ABC.

it was fun calling abc and giving them an earful of how I'm boycotting everything about them, including watching George Stephanopolous on Sunday mornings, unless they kick Robertson's butt of the air.

thanks camicao.
i agree with you 100%. no matter how you feel about someone's politics, it's wrong for people in this country to use national media outlets to order assassinations of leaders of countries who are democratically elected... who aren't hurting anybody, and who aren't threatening to harm us.

i try to keep up with global politics and have followed hugo chavez... i find him a hero of the people and i support venezuela by buying Citgo gas.

I think Chavez has done some extraordinary things.

Socialism is very Democratic and Capitalist. The difference is that Socialism puts a big emphasis on "common good" projects like health care and education instead of allowing Capitalism to run amok.

Now that I think of it - Socialism is Democracy ... with a conscience.

I agree.

I don't know why people have to argue either or when it comes to socialism and capitalism.

I don't see why we can't have a hybrid of the two.

but back to Chavez and the Bush Administration's and Robertson's disdain for Chavez's Venezuela:

They don't want Americans to see that there is an alternative to the type of system we have in the states that can work better than what we have.

Well... it works better for you and me but it doesn't work as well for that 1% of the American population that controls the wealth and ultimately our country.
